Sergey (name of the client has been changed) is a participant in the Program for the Prevention of HIV Diseases. A man is struggling with his addiction to injectable drugs.
During the visits to the service point, Maria Leonova, a social workeress of the CO “Light of Hope”, conducts consultations with Sergey on the prevention of infection and the importance of giving up drugs.
Once Sergey turned to a social workeress and reported a bad state of health, Maria noticed that the man was pale and blue appeared on his face.
“I immediately recognized the symptoms of an overdose and took urgent measures — I injected 1 ml of Naloxone, a drug that is an antagonist to opiate receptors and is used in critical cases of overdose, after which I called an ambulance,” says Maria Leonova, social workeress of СO “Light of Hope”.
The timely help of a social workeress saved the man from mortal danger.
At the moment, Sergey's condition has stabilized. He continues to attend the program and receive services.
