Our social worker Denis Pusan was approached by a phthisiatrician for help in solving the social problems of one of the patients. Igor (client name changed) was being treated for sensitive tuberculosis and had a difficult life situation, a depressed psychological state and chemical dependence on alcohol.
“Initially, he refused to consult a psychologist, but he actively cooperated with me. This led to positive changes in his condition. We discussed with him everything that interested him — from healthy lifestyle, infection control and specificity of treatment to the importance of timely diagnosis and formation of adherence to treatment in general”, – Denis Pusan, social worker of CO “Light of Hope”.
During treatment, it was found that the previous drugs were ineffective, so the new treatment regimen was extended for another 6 months. This news provoked stress, but thanks to the support of a social worker, Igor was able to cope with it. After two months, Igor was transferred to outpatient treatment, but the man had no place to live. So, after discharge, he moved to our Adaptation Center for the Homeless and Released from Prisons.
At the moment, Igor has completed treatment, does not drink alcohol and has a place to live. The final results of the tests indicate a complete overcoming of the diagnosis, which in turn allows Igor to lead a full full life and realize his own goals.
